This past weekend, March 21-22, 2015, due to some course changes due to the Scoutmaster and quick thinking on Tom Spencers part, we explored what very few people see in the Sipsey Wilderness.  We completed a 19 mile trek that included:

  • Largest Tree in Alabama
  • Largest Water Fall in the Bank Head Forest
  • Sipsey River and
  • Fat Man Squeeze

The photo shows the troop standing at the top of a 100’ foot Water Fall.  The gorge below looks like a land right out of one of J. R. R. Tolkien books.  The rain, mud, distance and river crossing made for a long day.  I am especially proud of the Scouts that this was their first backpacking trip.  I believe we all grew up a little and despite the sore muscles there is a spring of pride in our step today.  It was an adventure to remember.
